2015 Went by In the Blink of an Eye
What can I say about 2015 that I haven’t already said? Like many years that came before it, each month seemed to slip right by without notice. And as cliche as it is to title this post “2015 Went by In the Blink of an Eye”, for me it truly did. I think when your year can be summed up with a series of highs and lows, time becomes relative because the moments are what really make it special.
Here’s the highlight reel of the top 10 moments (personally and professionally):
- Launching No Square Peg
- Attending and Speaking at PoshFest in San Francisco
- Hitting 300K followers on PoshMark
- Attending Fashion Week MN
- Being warmly received by the Minnesota fashion community as I launched NSP
- Attending Fashion Market Week in New York City
- Trying to start a family
- Cultivating friendships with some of the most amazing women I have ever met
- Star Tribune Style Star during FWMN
- Executing the first Break Rules, Barriers & Trends event in December
What did 2015 bring that others years failed to reveal? When I am 80 years old I can imagine I will look back on moments in my life and I think this year will be a cornerstone among the rest. It was a year others will be built on.
“This year I have found my voice. The words are finally coming out, no longer stuck in my head out of fear of what others might think or perceive about who I am. "
And let me tell you, keeping my voice locked up in my head was like trying to wrestle a grizzly bear, daily. I am learning how to be quietly confident and encouraging others to join me on the same journey. I am learning my limits and when to say no. Previous years have brought great awareness around my priorities in my professional and personal life, but I call this the cornerstone year because I am finally at a place where I can take action and embrace the chaos.
So, what do I hope for in 2016? With a grizzly bear inside my head, my hopes and dreams are vast and at times unattainable. So, I hope and pray that this year will bring contentment and a new found joy of embracing the chaos by living each day in the present. I hope to continue growing and experiencing the mission of No Square Peg alongside all the women I have met and have yet to meet.
But I also want to encourage you all to just ‘be you’. Whatever that is, be it. Be confident to live your life how you want to live it, without hesitation and love others who seek to do the same. Enjoy all the new adventures 2016 will bring!
